Putting myself in the shoes of gals….....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One day I thought – what the hell can be the most important differences, not physically, but in the gap of the society between BOYS and GIRLS? In the very beginning BOYS have four alphabets but GIRLS have five, so girls are always complex I thought. I have been reading all physical differences but I don’t even know what would have happened if I were a girl or if simply- girls were more important than boys for the society in all aspects, just as opposite than it is now and was before but I’m not sure about the future.

One day, to my surprise, a long beared man came and told-“take this tablet and the next morning you will find what you wanted to be-a girl.” I told-“I’m afraid but I just wanted to look the society in the vice versa for girls and boys not become a girl myself. But …who are you?

“I am an ambassador from heaven. The god is so worried about the differences in the society between girls and boy although he had created both of them equal. And if you really want he can grant that for a week and it starts tomorrow morning…if you want to be physically a girl you can be for a month.” Then he disappeared.

I frankly speakin’ have never yet been frank to girls. The reason may make a big novel but one of the reasons – I am afraid of social norms and taboos. So, I wanted to be a girl for just a month but I was so afraid in the very beginning about monthly periods and even whom to make friends? I did not want to change physically because its man nature to boast their physical fitness.

Then why not a week? Okay. I prayed the god, to grant changes in the society for a week.

Next morning it was hard to find changes until my dad ordered-“Son, go and make a hot cup of coffee for us all.” Hum-? I’d never tried to open the gas cylinder and fire a lighter and let alone making a coffee. But I wasn’t surprised because I knew the boon of God has started working. I gave a try and only after half an hour I was able to do that. I don’t know myself how good I had made but no one took a second sip after trying the first…all I got was curses” Aashish, who do you think of these days? Are you in love..?

I couldn’t help laughing; only I knew in the world the secret that the society has changed at least a week for justice.

There was no question of asking mom (oh, sorry) dad to help me making toasts as I was being late to school but I however asked my sis-‘Darling, would u help me with toasts?”

“Hyaa ..! Help yourself. Don’t you see me watching TV? I don’t want to Miss WWE anyday.”

“You can do at the time of ads. I am being late!”

         “No way, I like advertisements.”

Then, the advertisements came. How awful? It featured boys with muscles and underwears. It was the first add in my life which had not shown any girls. Oh! The change was really funny. I laughed and my sister told-“Why the hell are you laughin’ nakalle?

I then entered kitchen. I knew I’d to go with empty belly of with burnt breads today. I thought of going empty.

“Yeah, I will drop you to college!”-told my sis.

“But your WWE?”

“Leave it.”

The ride was bunky. She drove so roughly. In the way I saw gang of girls outside a pool-centre singing English numbers, playing guitars, short haired, boys paints cut in several places, smoking and chatting. One of the girls called me- Hey Aashish, when will you let my bike serve you?

My sister stopped the bike and was about to smash their face but I stopped her, because I knew what the matter was.

It was funny but if it was far funnier to see my sister teasing one of my friends-‘Hie, whaz up? You look handsome man! Okey bie bro. Take care!”

“Hey Aashish your sis is so naughty, bie!

“Let it go, these girls are like this”-I told smiling gently.

When I entered the gate, all girls were in the canteen, singing and laughing. Our college is a bit strict and I thanked God for that. Otherwise? I don’t know what would have happened. In the class the teachers were as normal but it was new to see teachers scolding girls for making noise, but she smiled at us and told.” Boys, will you keep a mum?”

…..Today our topic is SEX DISCRIMINATION…

…”boys are always treated less important in the society in comparison to girls, socially, economically, physically and there are many other factors. We have these examples in our own homes. Today, we are gonna share ideas from our house. I went in active participation”…

“Gita, will you give example from the society?”

“No mam’ I think boys are so lucky to wear jwelleries and they don’t need to read. They can just make muscles to attract and attack our heart. We are who get dominated…

(A big laughter comes.) (I found my bench mate Bijay was so angry.)

“Is that funny? Mam’ I will add something. It is thought that girls can perform ritual ceremonies and have their death rites after their parents die. So they are taken as bless of god.” “Moreover, boys need to be sold, literally during marriage ceremonies. Girls ask for so unaffordable dowry and there is a system of multiple marriages too.” “Yes he is right! Boys are underprivileged with political and social rights. In the home itself, mom takes all the decisions”

“Yeah, you all are right. Aashish u wanna add something?”

“No….yes, always girls, I mean boys are asked to do household activities and even the simplest work like making toasts and coffee are left for us mam” (I smiled.)

All took me seriously and the suddenly the bell rang.

In the break, I wanted to play T.T as it was my habit, but noone was playing T.T.

         I told Ohm “let’s play.”

“No, these girls will tease us.”

“We must not be afraid to face those girls. Let’s play.”- Santosh told.

We played and a huge clap came from girls.

“Aashish you wanna play me?”-One of the girls told.

“Come on, if you got guts.”

1-0, 2-0, 3-0…..Yeah you can do man,

1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 3-4…and I won at last.

    All boys cheered……….Hurray!

“Ummh, I was a bit sick today”-the girl told.
